Secret Studio Sessions Vol.1 | 2019 | Paulo Gomes Trio
Without the usual boundaries of original repertoire lines or American jazz or music from any other origin, what I most value and look for in this trio is the collective sound and the pleasure of making the music I like the most. Without pretensions and in my favorite formation... the trio!
Led by Paulo Gomes, MAP is a quartet dedicated to the interpretation of music original, jazz-influenced, written by the members of the group. debuted in Porta-Jazz Festival in December 2012. Your first CD – The Zombie Wolf Playn' The Blues On A Monday Morning - was released in 2014. This disc was presented in many concerts in Portugal, and two concert series in France; in February and August 2015. In October 2015 they published the second CD – Circo Voador , inspired by the circus arts which was also disseminated throughout the country and some concerts in France in 2016. In March 2017 they published the third CD – Guerra e Paz ,considered by the blog “Bird is the worm” as one of the best jazz records released in 2017. In January 2018 they presented their music at a concert in Switzerland, in Genéve. In December of the same year, they performed with American saxophonist Chris Cheek at the Porta Jazz Festival at Teatro Rivoli. From the recording of this concert came the fourth record on CD – MAP + Chris Cheek .
The solo piano, as a form of presentation, occupies a privileged place in jazz, with a history prior to the origins of this genre. Its legitimate approaches are as varied as jazz itself. This lonely journey on a stage with a piano, I define it as a moment of total freedom, unrestricted expression, complete exposure and without refuges, the mixture of languages and techniques that I've always experienced. As a summary... a reflection and a retrospective of my musical and personal universe. The music that I listened to the most, the one I played and the one I wrote is part of this universe. And it is from this collection that the music that I bring to concert comes out of.

Paulo Gomes and Fátima Serro are one of the most regular working duos in national jazz. Projects such as the “Quinteto de Fátima Serro”, the “Conferencia dos Sons” or the “Quinto Elemento” are some of the fruits of this collaboration that has existed since the early 1990s. Works throughout the country (mainland and islands), in Spain, Germany, Belgium or Holland, with outstanding national musicians (Pedro Barreiros, Bruno Pedroso, Jorge Reis, Bernardo Moreira, Laurent Filipe, Zé Eduardo, Carlos Bica....) and foreigners (Julian Arguelles, Rolf Delfos, Henry Lowther, Ben Van Den Dungen, Anton Drukker, Pascal Vermeer…) support the quality of the works they regularly present. Edited records such as “Day By Day”, “Outra História”, “Intro”, or “Quinto Elemento” document this common path.
