PAULO GOMES | pianist, composer and teacher

Master in Artistic Interpretation – Piano Jazz, by the Superior School of Music of Porto. Master's Degree in Jazz Teaching from the Superior School of Music of Porto and the Superior School of  Education in Porto.

 

As a pianist and composer, he had the privilege of working on stages and/or recording studios with: Sheilla Jordan, David Murray, Chris Cheek, Eric Vloeimans, Jullian  Arguelles, Henry Lowther, Peter King, Montez Coleman, Herb Geller, Rolf Delphi, David  Chamberlain, Zé Eduardo, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Algarve Classical Orchestra,  among many others.


For several of these formations, he wrote original music. Noteworthy is the work you have done.  based on the work of great Portuguese poets (recorded on two CDs) in a feature film  collaboration with the singer Fátima Serro, and the writing of the original repertoire for EMJO  (European Movement Jazz Orchestra) and OJM (Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra).

 

Since the early 90s, he has participated in numerous jazz festivals in Portugal, Spain,  Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France and Switzerland.  

 

As a teacher (piano, harmony, improvisation and combo), he worked with many of the  professionals of the new generations of jazz in Portugal. Has held courses and seminars in many  official and private schools, throughout the country (mainland and islands), Spain and France. And since  2012, Professor of Piano-Jazz and Improvisation, at the Conservatório de Música do Porto.

 

Alongside Jazz, he participated in concerts and CD recordings by bands such as: “Andanças do Mar”; “Sea of the World”, “Classified” and “Joni”
